We are pleased to offer a new e-mail correspondence course on Bible Fundamentals. Below is the first lesson and introduction to the course. If you are interested in receiving further lessons, please send us an email.
Before we begin a course of Bible Fundamentals, it is essential that we approach the study of God’s Word with a deep respect for both its authenticity and authority. The Bible makes the claim that: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works" (II Timothy 3:16-17). We are also told that: "The prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit" (II Peter 1:21).
The word of God has endured throughout the generations. History has developed in a manner that is precisely consistent with its revelation. Archeology has proven its record to be true. The Bible message accurately supports all of the observations that we make about life and death.
In spite of the evidence, the new student may have some questions as to the authority of the Bible. Faith in the Word of God only comes from reading and studying it on a regular basis. We ask that you reserve judgment as you work through these lessons. The more familiar you become with the scriptures of truth, the more respect you will have for its message.
The Bible is God’s revelation to man. It is the only place where we have the opportunity to find out what His plan and purpose is for this earth. The Word of God alone contains the information that we need to find the way of salvation.
"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil" (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).
Each lesson includes a series of suggested Bible readings. These readings will normally provide the necessary answers for the real student. As the lessons progress however, there are questions that will require that you recall some of the earlier lessons, and/ or do some of your own research. This opportunity for personal study will help you to develop the skills that you will need to maintain a commitment to serve God with your life.
The number of Bible readings may seem difficult at times. It is important to remember that Jesus instructed us that "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4). The Word of God must become as important as your daily food. It is strongly recommended that all Bible students adopt a regular Bible reading plan, and that they make this activity a priority in their lives.
The lessons also include suggested memory verses. Committing portions of the Word of God to memory is one of the keys for survival that we learn from the example of Jesus. Consider how many times he resorted to his memory when he was tried. He often said: "It is written," as he used scripture to rebuke his adversaries. The Psalmist tells us "thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." We encourage you to take full advantage of this opportunity to start on the process of memorizing the Word. The Word of God, written on the heart, will be sure to help all of us during our probation.
During the conduct of these lessons, there will be questions that you are not able to answer. There will be times when you do not understand why a question is even asked. Your course administrator has a copy of the suggested answers to each question. We hope you will maintain an active correspondence with your instructor, via e-mail, during the conduct of these lessons.
Review of your answers and follow up discussion with your instructor is the best opportunity for you to gain additional insight.
It is our hope that these lessons will be useful in the preparations of the heart, so that many of our students will seek after the Lord while He may be found. We pray that many will be obedient to Him by responding to His calling, and will continue to glorify Him by a life of faithful service.
